Interstate Access Improvement – Contract 1
This Design-Build project consisted of several improvements to the highway system servicing Hunt’s Point in Queens, New York – home to several distribution and industrial centers. Malick & Scherer, P.C. provided civil and structural design services on several ramps, walls, and bridges.
Roadway structural support services provided by M&S:
In accordance with the RFP Part 3 Project Requirements, the Design-Build team was responsible for the complete design of any detail that did not directly follow NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDPR or other applicable agency standards. This amounted to a substantial number of site‐specific details that needed to be developed and design calculations prepared to the Design Quality Assurance Engineer (DQAE) satisfaction.

M&S performed the structural design of a modular T‐wall, multiple SP&L walls, bridge mounted sign structures, and a cantilever sidewalk slab. Structural support services for roadway, work zone traffic control, and utilities were provided as well. Regular interdisciplinary reviews and design team meetings were required to keep pace with the continuously evolving design.
