Over 70 years after the Route 42 Highway’s opening, this project fully connected the Route 42 and I-295 highways so that drivers could directly travel between the two without utilizing local roads of Bellmawr, New Jersey and other towns.
Malick & Scherer, P.C. was responsible for structural design of the Creek Road bridge over Ramps A and B of Route 42, as well as ten (10) retaining walls totaling over 4000 linear feet. In addition, M&S handled utility coordination on the project.
The original structure featured a combination of simply supported steel plate girders on span 1 and simply supported concrete girders on span 2. The new structure would have to be raised to accommodate new ramps.
The new superstructure consists of continuous plate girders and a composite deck. The substructures are conventional concrete cantilever abutments and piers on H-pile supported footings.

In addition to the design of the Creek Road over I-295 Bridge, Malick & Scherer, P.C. was responsible for the design of ten (10) retaining walls. These walls support the Creek Road bridge as well as Ramps A and B where they tie in to both the I-295 and Route 42 highways.
Utility coordination tasks M&S was responsible for included utility identification, communication with utility owners, and preparation of utility agreement plans, specifications, and estimates.
